York College invites applications for the position of Director of Teaching and Learning. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in innovation in offering faculty development in high impact practices. The Director of Teaching and Learning will report directly to the Provost and will be a member of the Provost's Council. The Director will offer leadership in the Academic Affairs unit in the area of faculty development. Duties will also include organizing new faculty orientation for both full-time and part-time faculty members, helping advise students in selected honors programs, serving on committees, and organizing academic awards and research showcases. Among the prioritized high impact practices at York College, the new Director will need to provide leadership in the area of digital pedagogy. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Instructional Design Team and faculty leaders in providing resources for faculty development, promoting faculty workshops and learning communities, and co-facilitating the Digital Fellows Program that provides training in the use of digital tools. Included in York's emphasis on digital pedagogy is leadership in the areas of online, hybrid, and hyflex instruction.
Additionally, the Director of Teaching and Learning will need to provide leadership in a number of other high impact practices. Global awareness initiatives are especially important, and the new Director will be expected to fill the role of the Senior International Officer, providing strategy and oversight to the international initiatives on the campus in Academic Affairs. Additional expertise in project-based learning is preferred, and the successful candidate will be expected to develop programming for undergraduate and graduate student-faculty research. Expertise in helping faculty identify grant opportunities would be a plus. A willingness to assist the Provost and the Deans in engaging in strategic planning for the units in Academic Affairs is requited. Additional experience in the areas of other high impact practices such as general education, internships, or service learning would be welcome. The new Director will need to offer expertise in at least two areas of high impact practices and also be willing to launch initiatives in the other areas.
Applicants should have an earned doctorate in an area that is related to an academic discipline or to one of the areas of interest described above. The successful candidate will also have a minimum of five years of experience working with faculty members at an institution of higher education. Leadership experience and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are essential. Oral and written communication skills are required, as is comfort with public speaking. Teaching and publication experience are highly desirable.
