Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, higher education administration or closely related field.

Student Life administration experience, understanding of small college residence life programs, experience with LLCs, experience with various types of housing facilities. Working knowledge of student information system (s); and Simplicity residential living software or similar housing software.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Director provides leadership for the administration of all aspects of the residential living program for such areas as facilities management, budget management, residents, services, activities, policies, and staff.

Responsibilities include: facilities upkeep, management, and recommendations for improvements; accurate data reporting; processing assignments, staff selection, supervision, and training; enforcing policies and procedures and recommending changes; developing handbooks, and promotional materials; maintaining the departmental website; assisting the Dean’s Office in the disciplinary process; assessing and addressing the needs of residents in all types of housing facilities; overseeing fiscal management of comprehensive budget including generation of income; maintaining housing reports; coordinating housing elements for guest housing, recruiting visits and events; supervising the assistance animal application process; collaborating with university departments and off-campus groups, as necessary; sharing weekend and night on-call duties, serving on university committees. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. Additional duties, as assigned.

Some weekend and evening time are required for programs, special events, emergencies, opening and closing of facilities at beginning or ending of terms, staff training, and supervision of occupied facilities when the University is closed. Maintain office hours 8 am -5 pm Monday through Friday during all times that the University is open.

This position is exempt from overtime provisions. Position is Security Sensitive.

About SRSU:

Residential living provides various types of housing facilities for approximately 700 students. This includes two modern residence halls with 500 beds, a traditional residence hall with 107 beds, 60 efficiency apartments, and 40 units for family housing. The staff includes two Assistant Directors, and a Housing Administration Specialist as full time employees. A part-time Hall Director and student staff composed of office assistants, resident assistants, and maintenance assistants fill the remainder of the departmental staff.

Called "Possibly the most underrated little university west of the Mississippi" by CBS's Dan Rather, Sul Ross State University in West Texas boasts a combination of small class sizes, an appreciation of both fine arts and the sciences and popular professional programs in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Who Is Sul Ross? Where is Sul Ross?
The university's name honors Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross, the son of a pioneer Waco, Texas, family and a popular soldier, governor, educator and humanitarian. Founded in 1917 as a teacher college, Sul Ross continues to offer teacher education as one of its most popular programs. Others in high demand are business, criminal justice and agricultural and natural resource sciences. Sul Ross achieved university status in 1969.

The university, comprising 647 acres in Alpine, Texas, boasts a beautiful 93-acre main campus of exquisitely-detailed buildings and enjoys perhaps the most temperate climate in the state. Its situation in the Davis Mountains overlooks the center of the city below, yet it remains within easy reach of many local stores and restaurants. A Small Size, But Plenty to Do
With an enrollment of about 2,000 students on the main campus in Alpine, class sizes are small, guaranteeing a much higher level of personal attention from instructors and the university's support staff. But there's plenty for students to do in their free time: lots of student clubs and organizations, a thriving arts community and a strong athletic tradition.

The SRSU men's basketball team won the conference championship five times in the past 20 years, including the 1999 American Southwest Conference championship. The women's basketball team has also won five conference championships and played in eight national playoffs, even making it to the Final Four.

Similarly, the Lobos football and baseball teams have won five conference titles each in the past 20 years, including American Southwest Conference championships in the late 1990s. The Lady Lobos volleyball team has won nine conference championships in all.

Rodeo is significant part of the Sul Ross program, and the university is the birthplace of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Many team members have gone on to become world champions, and 1951 graduate Harley May is a charter member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Hall of Fame.
