Your opportunity:

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Administration, the incumbent is responsible for managing the Medicine by Design portfolio of sponsored research funding, contracts and unrestricted accounts.

As a member of the Medicine by Design team, you will work closely with the Office of Research Services, in the Office of the Vice President, Research, Innovation & Strategic Initiatives, as well as interact with our community of regenerative medicine investigators and partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
  • Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
  • Analyzing financial trends and preparing analytical reports and forecasts for management decision making
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, commerce or accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years of related experience with financial analysis and reporting in a complex fast-paced educational or medical institution
  • A thorough understanding of accounting fundamentals is required
  • Highly developed computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Excel spreadsheets, word processing, database management, email systems, and HRIS/FIS and/or other financial software packages
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, numeracy, quantitative and accounting skills
  • The ability to develop and maintain electronic financial reports and administrative systems for accurate and effective record management
  • Superior (oraland written) communication skills including ability to professionally communicate complex financial procedures to principal investigators and research and administrative staff
  • Exceptional attention to detail, troubleshooting and organizational skills, and integrity and commitment to confidentiality
  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures, and regulations in a variety of situations; demonstrated ability to document processes and procedures and to prepare proceduresmanuals

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Completed or pursuing a recognized accounting program designation (e.g. CPA)
