Campus:St. George (Downtown Toronto)

Description:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH), University of Toronto seeks applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Indigenous Health, Aging, and Health Services, with a focus on Indigenous data stewardship, and aging and brain health research. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, located in the Division of Epidemiology, with an opportunity for a joint-appointment as a Senior Scientist in Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute (RRI). The position is anticipated to start January 1, 2022.

Candidates must have earned a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree (e.g. DrPH, MD/MSc, MD+MPH) in Indigenous health, community health services, epidemiology or a related field with a demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. The ideal candidate will be a respected scholar with exemplary collaborative leadership and communication skills, with a strong track-record of coordinating and developing Indigenous research programs across institutions. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and build on our existing strengths at the DLSPH and the RRI. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program, and will be expected to bring and continue to develop an innovative, independent and inclusive program of scholarship that emphasizes community building and partnerships both within and outside of the University. In particular, the candidate will lead a collaborative research program in Indigenous health – in particular in aging, dementia, and brain health research -- that applies methods from health services research and epidemiology, as well as Two Eyed Seeing approaches in neuroscience and behavioural research, and that links the Dalla Lana School to important health system partners such as Baycrest Health Sciences and ICES.

The successful candidate must have a strong record of Indigenous community-driven research excellence and ethical engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions as demonstrated by community collaboration deliverables and/or publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals in their area of expertise, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, strong letters of reference, supporting materials commenting on Indigenous community engagement, a history of leadership in national health research initiatives, a demonstrated commitment to building capacity for Indigenous aging and brain research in students and colleagues, and an exceptional methodological skillset in Indigenous knowledges.

Candidates must also demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching related to Indigenous health and health systems through their teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application to include a teaching statement, sample course materials and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference.

Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous. Recognizing that there are a variety of terms that potential candidates may use to self-identify, the University uses the term “Indigenous” in this search, which forms part of the U of T Response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to encompass the people of Turtle Island, including those who identify as First Nations, Métis, Inuk (Inuit), Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian people.

The culture of the DLSPH is one that regards teaching and mentorship as fundamental to scholarship, and excellence in teaching and mentorship is required. The successful candidate will be required to teach in accordance with the School’s workload policy and provide mentorship and supervision for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
