Assistant Director, Queer Student Resources🔍Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Stanford, California, United States📁Student Services📅Apr 30, 2021 Post Date📅89371 Requisition #Queer Student Resources (QSR), a community of students, university staff, and faculty at Stanford University, seeks a new Assistant Director to lead in our efforts to foster the intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of historially marginalized students, along with others facing historical, institutional and structural barriers to flourishing: queer, trans, non-binary and questioning students; Black, Latinx, Asian, Native and indigenous students; students with disabilities; Muslim students and others with intersectional cultures, experiences and identities. - Building community, forging connections and encouraging experiences of belonging. Helping students navigate the institutional terrain and access resources equitably. Collaborating with partners across campus on the larger project of making Stanford a place where people of all genders and sexualities can flourish.
- Engender trust and connect with students. Model healthy boundaries, self- and community-care and work-life balance. Take initiative in navigating a decentralized campus. Connect with and support students, trusting the integrity of their unique paths. Develop, manage, support and assess student-centered programs. Write and edit.Design and curate intentional visually engaging physical and digital spaces.Listen and provide a sounding board to students on a range of sometimes difficult issues, making referrals to other resources and campus partners where appropriate. Advise a wide range of students and groups affiliated with QSR on major event planning, organizational development, fundraising, recruiting, & university policies for campus groups and activities. Analyze and attend to student needs, concerns, and conflicts by designing and revising student programs and services addressing emerging priorities. Manage the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of 20-30 student staff members. Work collaboratively with QSR Director and Associate Director to develop comprehensive training for student staff and to design facilitate an annual QSR staff retreat. Supervise student staff use of shared purchasing card; ensure that students stay within budgeted spending limits. Manage financial processes and budgets using Stanford systems; supervise operating and gift accounts. Transfer funds to student groups; verify all financial transactions; initiate interdepartmental journal transfers; issue payments; ensure that expenditures stay within budgeted spending limits. Manage all facilities and supplies needs associated with QSR’s designated space, including usage by student groups and other campus organizations. Manage relationships with vendors, work orders related to facilities and access needs, alarm system, capital improvements, etc.Work with designated campus partners on select collaborative projects.
- Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Master’s degree preferred. Candidates who have a Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience may be considered for appointment to the Program Associate position (Student Services Officer 1) in QSR and will be assigned duties appropriate to the position. Master’s degree preferred. Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, various constituents (students, faculty, staff, alumni), and to all levels of management. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. An understanding and knowledge of feminist and other identity-based theoretical frameworks and social justice approaches to use within higher education in an interdisciplinary context. Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with individuals and groups from various identities, cultures and backgrounds. Student development knowledge and experience in student affairs preferred. Ability to use computer and technology for word processing, accounting, managing social media and website presence; familiarity and proficiency with google docs. Understanding of and ability to process financial transactions; strong attention to detail. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks. Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 30 pounds. Occasionally drive students to staff retreats, purchase items for meetings, events, and retreats, and move furniture around for events.
