Job Details
- Assess user needs and requirements for digital library access and delivery systems.
- Participate in technical planning, development sprints, and work cycles, collaborating with other software engineers, user experience designers, and other colleagues to design, develop, and implement applications.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and update existing programs and applications across the Access Team’s portfolio.
- Serve as a technical resource with respect to the Access Team portfolio, including documenting changes in software for end users.
- Understand and follow software development practices and processes, including security procedures.
- Contribute in a positive way to team culture.
- Participate in setting technical strategy on new and emerging programmatic areas.
- Think broadly across the team’s portfolio about impacts on analysis and implementation.
- Help set software development practices and processes and model positive team culture. Serve as technical lead for small to medium projects, setting technical direction, breaking down work into components, and partnering with service managers, product owners, and other stakeholders.
- Lead technical strategy on new and emerging programmatic areas.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with both technical and non-technical project stakeholders.
- Think broadly across the organization about impacts on analysis and implementation, and collaborate with software developers and other technical staff across teams and departments
- Set, lead and model software development practices, team culture and processes. Serve as technical lead for large projects, setting technical direction, breaking down work into components, and partnering with service managers, product owners, and other stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience with digital library, digital humanities projects, data analysis, or data transformation
- Experience with visualization, search/browse, geographic information systems, or other discovery interfaces
- Experience with image processing or streaming media
- Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
- Demonstrated experience in digital library applications or related application domains strongly desired.
- Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
- Ability to facilitate activities on structured team development projects.
- Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Strong knowledge of more than one programming language, including Ruby or JavaScript. Understanding of IT security and expertise in proactively applying considerations to all aspects of position.
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Relevant experience must include demonstrated experience with supporting digital library projects or programs, or comparable experience in related sectors or domains.
- Relevant experience may include:
- Experience with digital library, digital humanities projects, data analysis, or data transformation
- Experience with visualization, search/browse, geographic information systems, or other discovery interfaces Experience with image processing or streaming media
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and programming tools.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications, including digital library applications.
- Strong understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases, and data modeling.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of software development life cycle and quality control practices.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
- Demonstrated experience leading activities on structured team development projects. Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods. Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand. Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- May work extended hours, evening and weekends for both project-based work and/or regular, on call operational support.
