Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for providing campus academic administration oversight and campus wide initiatives with the ability to foster collaboration among colleges. This position is responsible for ensuring the coordination of divisional budgetary expenditures with academic planning, curriculum review of academic programs, and academic personnel processes. Provides oversight of the day-to-day budget expenditures for the Division of Academic Affairs, including penultimate approval of expenditures before the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the monitoring of resource allocation expenditures. Coordinates closely with the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness in order to match budget to strategic planning. Works with the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness to establish and maintain analytics protocol that monitor budget, assessment and enrollment for distribution to the Provost/VPAA and the deans. Coordinates and provide oversight of faculty and staff hiring in conjunction with the Provost/VPAA. Coordinates and provides oversight of faculty pre-tenure, tenure, post-tenure and promotion review processes in conjunction with the Provost/VPAA. Reports faculty actions related to tenure, promotion and continuance in the RUSO Board letter. Reviews and recommends approval of Chairperson evaluations. Serves as second level supervisor and/or coordinates IPPs for staff reporting through Academic Affairs as requested by the Provost/VPAA. Sets agenda with the Provost/VPAA and direct reports for the Provost's Advisory Council, the Faculty Handbook Editorial Board, and the Faculty Merit-Credit Committee. Participates in the review/recommendation processes for class schedule builds, faculty overload, reassignment time, and faculty load reports, new curricular proposals, new specialized accreditation proposals, and faculty and staff travel applications, Oversees campus course scheduling for adjunct faculty with input on the adjunct budget and any summer revenue model. Ensures that faculty and student complaints are investigated and responses are provided. Facilitates the Academic Leadership Fellows (or similar such) program in conjunction with the Provost/VPAA and the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness. Serves as a liaison to the Emeritus Faculty Association and the University Ombudsman program/ Facilitates the American Democracy Project, the Transformative Learning Scholars Program, and other initiatives in conjunction with the Provost/VPAA. Facilitates initiatives, programs, and policies for faculty recruitment and advancement and ensures their uniformity. Oversees the approval processes for university fees and coordinates special projects as assigned by the Provost/VPAA. Performs other duties as assigned.
Earned doctorate in field from accredited university (or equivalent level of education) Teaching experience and academic credentials to merit the rank of professor for academic positions. Serves as an example of civility, community, character, and work ethic. A discernible record of successful and innovative experience in leadership, administration, and finance. A discernible record of leading planning, including program development and innovation, program review, and assessment. 10+ years experience of successful higher education teaching and/or administrative experience. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.
Evidence of successful executive (CEO) experience leading an administrative unit at the level of a college and/or division. Experience as a dean and chair. Exceptional skills in creative problem solving with demonstrable training in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience. Ability to foster consensus and commitment to shared governance and community interest. Evidence of academic achievement through successful teaching, research and/ or administrative experience.
Ability to effectively express ideas, instructions and concepts; Ability to speak and write effectively and clearly. Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Ability to make independent, complex decisions simultaneously exercising personal initiative and good judgment. Demonstrates good human relation skills to establish and foster good relationships with subordinates, university employees, and students. Must have a service attitude. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to keep a positive attitude during stressful situations and keep up with multiple projects. Proficient use of personal computer and Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheet software. Ability to learn and utilize the university software program and systems in the performance of regular duties. Honest and ethical.
