The Assistant Research Professor will work with a research team, led by Helen and Pat O’Sullivan Professor Gregory J. Benner. The research will focus on the development of social, emotional, behavioral, and academic innovations for educators who serve students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). For example, over the next three years, the team will develop the Social and Emotional Learning Study Groups (SELSG+) professional learning innovation for elementary educators who serve youth with EBD. The team is also engaged in the examining the efficacy of reading and behavioral strategies designed to improve the learning outcomes of school-age youth who have or are at-risk of being diagnosed with EBD. The team is also engaged in the implementation and evaluation of the Whole School, Whole Community and Whole Child approach (WSCC) in communities nationwide (see: https://www.cdc.gov/healthyschools/wscc/index.htm). The position is funded for three years and will only be renewed if external funding is secured to support its continuation.

The University of Alabama, College of Education seeks an innovative individual for a non-tenure earning Assistant Research Professor position to join and work with a research team affiliated with the Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities Program. The position is available from 8/16/21-8/15/24.

Required Qualifications: The candidate must hold a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in the broad field of Special Education and have experience working in schools. The candidate must also have applied research experience related to multi-tiered systems of support. It is preferred that the candidate also have a documented history of grant funding, research experiences across methodologies (e.g., quantitative, single case design, and qualitative) and some experience working with a research team.
