General Summary

The ACEND Accreditation Manager of the Dietetic Internship (DI) has the responsibility of effectively supporting the current DI Program at Illinois State University. To aid in recruitment efforts, the ACEND Accreditation Manager will inform prospective students interested in the DI Program of the requirements of the internship at Illinois State University, and the ACEND requirements for becoming eligible to take the registration exam to become an RDN. The ACEND Accreditation Manager will manage and organize applications for computer matching, assist in the review of interns' rotation schedules for ACEND required hours, maintain record of preceptor credentials, and secure and maintain affiliation agreements. The ACEND Accreditation Manager will maintain complete records of DI Program objectives for inclusion in reports required by ACEND. The ACEND Accreditation Manager will also assist in the ongoing evaluation of the DI Program. The ACEND Accreditation Manager will collaborate with the DI Director, Assistant DI Director, members of the faculty in the Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics program, and members of the Dietetic Internship -- Didactic Program in Dietetics Advisory Committee to ensure the ongoing growth and success of the program.

THE PROGRAM

The current face-to-face Dietetic Internship program at Illinois State University (ISU) is a 21-month experience offered in conjunction with a Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. Current total enrollment in track 1 is 20 interns with 10 accepted each year. The Track 2 Distance Internship is a 9-month experience offered in conjunction with a Graduate Certificate with anticipated enrollment of 50 interns in the Class of 2022. The internship rotation component of the program consists of a minimum of 1,296 hours of supervised practice. Interns gain experiences at six different practice sites with a minimum of two in each of the areas of clinical, community, and foodservice. The Leadership and Project Management concentration provides interns with ample opportunity to put theory into practice. For the culminating experience of the concentration, interns develop their own management styles as they plan, execute, and evaluate their personal leadership project.

Additional Information

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of six departments and two schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology (www.cast.illinoisstate.edu). The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers five professional undergraduate programs [Fashion Design and Merchandising; Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design; and FCS Teacher Education]. The department also offers an accelerated master's program (combined bachelor's and master's) and a two-year comprehensive M.S. /M.A. program, including a Dietetic Internship sequence and a Child Life option. The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate interior design (CIDA), undergraduate Teacher Education program (NCATE), undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (ACEND), and a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND). The Department has approximately 560 undergraduate and 45 graduate students, 22 full-time and 6 part-time faculty, 1 full-time and 1 part-time academic advisor, 2 civil service personnel, and 4 academic professionals at an affiliated Child Care Center.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a major in a nutrition-related field and one year of work experience and/or training in the area of nutrition

OR

Master’s degree in a related field.

2. Ability to work as part of a team, multi-task, and produce quality work under deadlines.

3. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, preceptors, current students and prospective students and their families.

4. Excellent judgment and organizational skills.

5. Detail-oriented and an accurate record keeper.

6. Experience in creating and managing databases and websites.

Desired Qualifications

1. Two years of related clinical or program administration experience or a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with a major in a nutrition-related field

2. Previous professional experience with Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) programs, accreditation.

3. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

4. Membership and active participation in relevant academic or professional organizations such as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors Practice Group is also desired.

Work Hours

Core work hours are Monday - Friday; 8:00 - 4:30
