Our campus is located at 3219 College Street, Savannah, GA 31404.Job Summary The Athletic Training Intern assists the Lead Athletic Trainer and Athletic Trainers with overseeing and delivery of sports medicine coverage, services, and injury care at Savannah State University. Duties include prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes (male and females) participating in Savannah State University’s Intercollegiate Athletic program. In addition, duties will include maintaining medical records, travel with specific teams, coverage of specific practices and home contests.Responsibilities Reporting to the Lead Athletic Trainer
- Assists the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainers with overseeing and delivery of sports medicine coverage, services, and injury care at Savannah State University. Other duties may be assigned.Evaluates, treats, and rehabilitates student athletes; administers doctor prescribed treatments to injured student athletes.Maintains current inventory of all supplies and equipment to ensure efficient and economical methods of operations; requisitions purchases to replenish stock.Maintains records on student athletes and ensures the accuracy of files maintained in the Savannah State University’s Sports Medicine Facility.Attends scheduled team practices and competitions, to include all home and away events for contracted covered sports.Performs university- and department-mandated COVID testing as assigned by the Lead Athletic TrainerFollows the NATA Code of Ethics, maintains NATA membership and remains current on all state and national requirements for license renewal.Assists with the maintenance of training room equipment and apparatus; performs yearly safety inspections.Provides necessary feedback to head coaches regarding a student athletes’ medical condition from HIPAA compliant reports from Athletic Trainer Systems (ATS).Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to student athletes and Sports Medicine.Knowledge of and compliance with the University’s rules and regulations as they apply to Intercollegiate Athletics.Educational responsibilities will include but not limited to written or oral presentations, seminars, symposiums, and research.Evaluates, treats, and rehabilitates student athletes; administers doctor prescribed treatments to injured student athletes.Must adhere to all university policies, NCAA By-Laws and Conference policies (SIAC).
- Bachelor’s degree required from CAATE accredited institution Certification from the National Athletic Trainers AssociationMeet qualification for athletic training licensure in the state of GeorgiaThe successful candidate is required to have knowledge of NCAA By-Laws.Background and/or credit check may be required.
Candidate must provide proof of being CPR/First Aid/AED certification prior to start day.Conditions of Employment
