The UBC for Academic & Community Engagement works to enhance the operations of 19 centers/ institutes/programs (CIPs) which include: Ackland Art Museum, American Indian Center, Asian American Center, Athletic Counseling, Carolina Center for Public Service, Carolina Health Opportunities Programs (Upward Bound and McNair), Carolina Latinx Center, Carolina Seminars, Carolina Women’s Center, Center for Faculty Excellence, Digital and Lifelong Learning, Institute of African American Research, Marine Sciences Program, Morehead Planetarium, NC Botanical Garden, Partnerships in Aging Program (PiAP), Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History, World View and the William and Ida Friday Center by consolidating their individual business operations into one Unified Business Cluster (UBC).

As a single unit it will save the management time and effort, associated costs, and providing consistency of policies and operational effectiveness.

Objectives of this arrangement will be:

• Enable CIPs to focus on their core competencies and mission by reducing the administrative workload.
• Reduce the overall cost of administrative tasks while ensuring that the capacity is well utilized by consolidating functions.
• Allow an ease of scalability for the CIPs without carrying fixed costs.
• Enable transparency of operations and information, creating a more responsive organization that utilizes on-line systems and automation to streamline processes.
• Ensure consistency in application of policies; ensuring compliance to UNC, State, and Federal regulations and laws.

Position Description:

THIS IS A TIME LIMITED POSITION

The Business Services Coordinator position is involved in a variety of duties, ranging from business office consulting to trouble shooting and advanced problem solving. This position is located in the Administrative Office of the Unified Business Cluster (UBC) and interacts with faculty, staff, vendors and Independent Contractors.
This position is responsible for directing, guiding, and managing daily business and financial operations for CIP’s within the UBC, as well as providing input in long term strategic planning and operations. The duties associated with this position dictate a high level of independence and responsibility and the ability to make decisions that will not adversely affect the operations of the Administrative Office and the departments that the UBC supports. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the policies, regulations and organization of the University and the departments the UBC supports are crucial. This individual must be able to be select the proper procedures that apply to the task at hand. This position should possess a demonstrated knowledge of accounting, budget development and management principles and ability to prepare detailed and accurate financial reports in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures. Position involves analyzing and preparing financial forecasting reports for programming areas and initial budgetary recommendations based upon past and current program/project plans. This position should be able to participate in allocating resources, planning, procurement, and oversight of budgets and contracts to ensure fiscal stability of the unit.
This position should be able to manage multiple functions including assisting with development activities and serve as the unit(s) TIM Administrator. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with other campus units is critical.
This position will work with Directors in order to insure correct processing of vouchers, travel, travel reimbursements and act as the HR liaison.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

The selected candidate must have exceptional interpersonal communications skills. Must have the ability to work independently as well as a team-oriented setting . Must have a working knowledge of Excel and Word processing software. Should have experience with working with budgets, generating reports, and processing payments. Must have great organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Skills in effective planning, prioritization, and organization of workload.
• It is helpful for this position to have a working knowledge of University, State, and Federal regulations governing accounting, and limited knowledge of personnel management.
• Superior customer service skills.
• Considerable knowledge of office techniques and equipment, ability to communicate effectively in both a written and oral manner.
• Prefer candidate with University experience. Knowledge of ConnectCarolina, PeopleSoft, InfoPorte, and Accounts payable experience is preferred.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
