The Reese Innovation Lab within the Hussmann School of Journalism and Media, located at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, creates innovative products using emerging technologies.

The Full Stack Developer and Server Administrator will join a team of proven innovative professionals of faculty, visual artists, computer scientists and futurists developing cutting edge instructional technology to solve specific problems facing the media industry.

This position will lead development of applications that include mobile, web-based, augmented reality and virtual reality apps using Python, HTML and Unreal Engine. The developer will deploy our technical server-side applications across internal and external computing systems. The position will work both independently and collaboratively as a developer but also manage our system configurations and deployments (AWS) in a repeatable, scalable fashion).

The position duties include:
-Developing mobile, web virtual and augmented reality applications;
-Developing and deploying server-side applications necessary for innovative experiences;
-Documenting workflow and processes;
-Leading and project managing other outside developers and 3D freelancers/contractors.

Educational Requirements:

Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

A degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Networking Technology, or closely related degree is preferred.

Qualifications and Experience:

Preferred qualifications and experience:

-Demonstrated knowledge of Unreal Engine;
-Experience in Python;
-Experience in a creative development environment;
-Demonstrable knowledge of git;
-Demonstrable knowledge of Docker containers;
-Demonstrable knowledge of HTTPS/SSL/TLS certificates;
-Working knowledge of HTTP web applications (request / response cycle, HTTP methods);
-Demonstrable knowledge of AWS;
-IAM, EC2, S3, VPC
-Working knowledge of container platforms (Kubernetes, Nomad, etc.);
-Working knowledge of Python or C++;
-Working knowledge of basic Linux and Windows basic administration skills.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the software development lifecycle and good software development practices (12 factor apps, code linting, style guides) and will apply industry standards and practices to solutions.
