Description of Work:

This Coder position will be responsible for qualitatively analyzing the verbal communication in transcripts of ADHD medical visits for a Duke Endowment grant; carefully read through transcripts in a systematic manner evaluating whether specific communication about ADHD occurred in the medical visit; edit as necessary and return reports in either printed or electronic form to the supervisor for review and signature, or correction. Additionally, the Coder must meet with other coders on a regular basis to discuss how each coded a specific transcript to maintain coding consistency between/among the coders. This position does not involve ICD or CPT coding.

Education and Experience:

Required:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong verbal and reading abilities; possession of excellent coding skills; demonstration of strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, and meeting quick turn-around deadlines; ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks; demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; basic understanding of medical research processes;

Preferred:
- Currently enrolled/taking coursework or have completed the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences or biomedical fields.

- Willingness to help out with transcription of audio-tape recorded medical visits as needed.
