The primary purpose of this position is to support the project coordinator and faculty member by extracting, transforming, validating, loading, and managing multiple large datasets and databases needed by the Institute for Trauma Recovery. This position will support biostatisticians doing mental health research on big data, by organizing, publishing, and documenting data into preferred structures for analysis. Data may come from various formats and sources, including but not limited to RDBMS, FTP/CSV, XML, web surveys, web services, wearable devices, accelerometers, neurocognitive assessments, and environmental sensors. Resulting datasets must be in useable formats for analysis, such as SAS, SPSS, R. Most constructs require the processing of very complex source database structures, with changing specifications from biostatisticians. Independent initiative is required during programming, coding, and validation to examine the data to ensure it conforms to expectations, adapting to unexpected values and formats. Data integrity is critically important. Raw data sources may reach 300+ million records, with >1000 created variables. Basic descriptive statistical output e.g. weighted crosstabs, will be generated and given to the biostatistician to review, as well as other reports/analytics.Educational Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in computer science, mathematics or related field.Qualifications and Experience:
At least five years primarily working in SAS is required, SAS will be used at the primary data management tool. Must be very adept with BASE SAS procedures, SAS macro language, SQL scripts, ETL, complex merges in SAS, PROC Tabulate, manipulating SAS text and date variables especially in text file conversion, and optimizing SAS programs to run on big data. Must have experience working with big data exported from RDBMS (Oracle, SQL server, etc.) or other formats into SAS. Should have some familiarity with SAS STAT procedures, particularly PROC SURVEYFREQ and a working knowledge of basic statistics. Excellent Excel skills expected, as well as experience with secure document management/storages systems such as Sharepoint. Preferred qualifications include the ability to work independently, careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate will have proven analytical and reasoning abilities and experience evaluating complex requirements and regulations. Strong skills in data management and information technology, including statistical/analytics software SAS, RDBMS/SQL, ETL, and secure document management/storage systems such as SharePoint. Must have at least two years of data management experience.
Familiarity with R, programming/scripting languages such as R, and C#, document management/storage systems, medical claims data, prescription drug data, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), logistic regression analysis, scoring web reporting tools 9e.g. SQL Server Reporting Services, Crystal Reports, SAS Visual Analytics), JSON, and XML all preferred. Creative problem-solving ability often required to construct variables requested by biostatisticians from the source data. Must have very strong QC abilities to validate code and ability to work independently.
