Essential Job Duties:

The Catalyst program is for High School Students with disabilities who are in the Occupational Course of Study Program or Regular Education Setting in High School, including Honors and AP Classes (not self-contained or needing a One on One Assistant), but prefer small group individualized instruction with hands on science experiences to learn about STEM.

The Catalyst Program Assistant will aid the program director in guiding participants to learn STEM content, skills, and careers, as well as discovering STEM programs at Wake Tech and NCSU.

Areas of focus include: Biotechnology, Coding, App Design, Wearable Devices, Energy, Engineering, Art, Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry, Space, Soft Skills, and many other topics. Assistant will supervise students on Field Trips to research labs, North Carolina Natural Science Museum, industry and field sites.

Work Schedule:

Varies per week, Monday-Friday, 8am - 5pm, various Saturdays throughout the year, one overnight trip in the spring

Other Work/Responsibilities:

Assist program director in planning, preparing lesson plans, and teaching in classrooms in both STEM and Workforce Readiness skills. Activities would include driving and supervising participants on field trips and Job Coaching students in STEM Internships. Assist students in small groups or one on one. Assisting with overall communication to participants, parents and staff.Assist in Grant Reporting Paperwork.

Minimum Experience/Education:

BA or BS Degree with emphasis in Education or Math, Science, and/or Technology and 2-5+ years’ experience in Special Education Department

Department Required Skills:

Overseeing academic activities.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

BA or BS Degree with emphasis in Education, Psychology or Math, Science, and/or Technology and 2-5 years’ experience in Special Education and Job Coaching Experience.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Enjoys working with students with disabilities.
