Primary Function:

The Department of Earth and Environmental Systems at the University of the South, Sewanee TN, invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement in Forestry.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach a total of six courses (a laboratory component of a class counts as one course), including dendrology, forest ecology, and contribute to the teaching of an introductory forestry course. Additional courses could include forest health, GIS applications in forestry, forest biometrics, forest wildlife, water policy, or another course within the applicant’s interests.

The ten-member Department of Earth and Environmental Systems offers four majors: Geology, Forestry, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Environment and Sustainability, as well as a certificate in Watershed Sciences. The forests, soils, geology, and hydrology of the University’s property are used extensively in teaching and research.

Education:

Applicants should have extensive field-based experience and a Ph.D. in forestry.

Experience:

Demonstrated success in teaching and the ability to drive a 12- passenger van will both be required.

Work is primarily performed in an office, classroom, lecture hall, auditorium, laboratory, and other University facilities.
