25-Jun-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs (PG/BAP) team in the Office of Advancement encourages applications for a Director of Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this position will coordinate, support, and lead activities as a forward-facing development officer primarily covering the Northern California region. This role is responsible for cultivating key donors and parents and securing major and leadership annual giving commitments. We are seeking a Director of Development with strong fundraising experience and extensive knowledge of major gift work in higher education.
The PG/BAP team is grounded in a donor-centered, “CU First” advancement philosophy which requires collaboration with units, divisions, schools, and colleges. Our campus partners include the Division of Student Affairs, Financial Aid, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement and Undergraduate Education. A key constituency for our office is CU Boulder parents, and we also work closely with alumni interested in contributing to campus-based initiatives and programs.

Who We AreThe office of Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs is dedicated to engaging alumni, parents, and friends with the University of Colorado for the specific goal of securing philanthropic gifts to the Parent Fund and broader CU Boulder campus-level programs. The Parent Fund provides direct support for the programs and initiatives (i.e., health and wellness, career services, academic tutoring, etc.) offered to students through the Division of Student Affairs. Donor contributions to a variety of campus-level programs, i.e., financial aid, veterans, study abroad, etc., provide funding for the most impactful student success priorities and are investments in CU Boulder's prominence as an institution of higher education. What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeIndividual Contributor
1. Serve as a highly productive team member by successfully managing and developing a portfolio of individual prospects, approximately 30% alumni and 70% parents.
2. Responsible for managing a portfolio of 100-125 qualified prospective donors and accountable for achieving annual development goals including dollars raised, number of proposals, visits and assists and other position requirements, i.e. serving as a resource for campus partners.
3. With a "CU first" philosophy, accomplish annual and multi-year performance and portfolio engagement goals, consistently develop assigned relationships towards solicitation of existing and future donors at or above $100,000 with the intent of sustaining and growing donors' impact on CU Boulder.
4. Identify, cultivate and solicit key prospective parents for membership in the Chancellor’s Parent Leadership Society Board.
5. Demonstrate dedication to donor-centered work by coordinating with advancement colleagues in schools, colleges, and athletics in cross-campus donor engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
6. Travel (minimally 8-10 times/approx. 35+ days per year) in order to meet key prospective donors and parents, coordinate with the PG/BAP Assistant Vice Chancellor, and as needed with the Principal Gifts team including the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Advancement on the highest capacity prospects.
7. Act as liaison to several “Boulder Advancement Program” offices in areas that include Student Affairs, Undergraduate Education, Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement and Financial Aid.
8. Regularly review portfolio to ensure appropriate mix of donors (discovery, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) and capacity.
9. Develop strategic plans for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding each donor as appropriate.
Administrative
10. Document prospect strategies and contact reports consistently, evaluate new prospects, generate stewardship reports and general correspondence to cultivate major gift prospects.
11. Ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements.
12. Represent CU at events in order to support the University’s philanthropic goals and to engage and cultivate donors.What We Can OfferThe salary range is $85,000 - $95,000.   • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of top level, successful fundraising experience.

  • Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities and interests of current parents, alumni, students, and faculty.
  • Solid understanding of planned giving.
  • Software Utilized: Microsoft Office Products; MS Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint; current donor database and transition to new CRM system.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • 4 or more years of top level, successful fundraising experience.
  • Higher education advancement experience.
  • Graduate work in related field.
