The Office of Student Success, Centralized Advising is looking for Academic Advisors to join our Roo Advising Team.
Roo Advising is UMKC’s exciting new advising model. Roo Advising is a proactive, personalized, and comprehensive advising experience designed to ensure students understand the requirements for their chosen degree programs, have a clear path to graduation, and are engaged with faculty mentors to prepare for graduate and professional school or employment opportunities.
The successful applicant will prioritize the advisor-student relationship and will work proactively to provide guidance and support for students to make informed choices to reach their goals and complete their degree with maximum efficiency and success. In addition, the applicant will have a strong commitment to professional development, utilizing the resources and programming made available to continue to build skills and gain knowledge related to this career path. Lastly, the Academic Advisor will live UMKC’s Culture of Care through their advising practice and interactions not only with students but by extension to all members of our UMKC Community.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- developing an advising relationship that supports student’s interests, experience, values, and skills
- holding regular advising appointments
- working with students to build their proficiency in using related technology such as Pathway, Canvas, UMKC Connect, and PlanMyDegree
- proficient user of UMKC Connect, prioritizes utilization through regular engagement, accurate advising notes and timely use of and follow up on early alert activity
- monitoring enrollment and academic progress
- working with students who may need additional support or who are returning to good academic standing
- working to support retention initiatives
- attending weekly team meetings, advisor trainings, Advisor’s Forum
- assisting with Walk-In Advising
- working on team projects as assigned
- seeking regular opportunities to participate in advancing knowledge and skills as relate to advising, including working to identify areas for improvement, problem-solving, project development and implementation
- participation through service to advising, students, UMKC, and community
