The selected individual will be responsibility for maintenance and landscaping of the university grounds. Grounds personnel must be available for early morning and/or night hours depending on campus events and in some instances the weather forecast. Work may be done in a group with other groundskeepers, other FM staff, student workers, or staff from other departments. The ability to work with people of diverse personalities, education, and cultural background is important.Scope of Responsibilities:
•Mow and trim grass with power mowers and other power tools.
•Weed flower beds, around shrubs, and trees as directed.
•Remove dead branches, prune, and maintain trees.
•Assist with the removal and disposal of trash and debris.
•Rake or blow leaves and grass.
•Move furniture, set-up offices, and other academic spaces as directed.
•Maintain streets in the immediate vicinity of the campus.
•Maintain parking lots.
•Provide support and manpower as directed to other departments as well as Facilities Management.
•The above list is not to be considered inclusive. A supervisor may assign other duties to meet mission requirements of the University, and the cooperation of all personnel is expected in order to carry out the mission.
•Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the University.
•Must possess and maintain a Mississippi Driver’s License.
•Must adhere to all safety standards and work practices set by the Department of Facilities Management.
•Should be well organized and able to work independently without close supervision.
•Should be vitally interested in grounds maintenance.
High School diploma with one to two years experience in the care and maintenance of a similar facility. Will also accept any combination of education, training, or experience which fulfills the requirements of the position and needs of Alcorn State University.Licensing and Certifications :
