Position: Program Assistant Location: College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences/GWCAES

Status: Full-Time

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create flyers youth program events as deemed appropriate by the supervisor
  • Represent youth programs at meetings (in person or virtual) with partners and others as deemed appropriate by the supervisor
  • Attend regular planning meetings for program events with the program director(s) and related individuals
  • Utilize social media, email, and other platforms to publicize program activities
  • Facilitate youth program activities as directed by supervisor to include, but not limited to AL Youth Institute, VIL Young Men of Color, TAPS
  • Assist with youth program activities as directed by supervisor to include, but not limited to EXERT, AgDiscovery, AgriTREK/SciTREK, FNR-TREK, Jr MANRRS
  • Coordinate individuals (student, staff, etc.) needed to carry out youth program events directed by the supervisor
  • Archive evidence of activities, i.e. prepare reports
  • Create and launch forms necessary for the programs (i.e. surveys, applications, etc.) and collect related resultant data
  • Plan and implement recruitment activities
  • Work with the program director on resource planning, availability, and allocation
  • Based on the provided scope and requirements translate them into tasks, schedule and assign tasks
  • Work with team on project work to keep the project going according to schedule
  • Communicate to the project director changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs
  • Track and analyze project performance, cost performance, schedule and report to the project director on the changes in project scope, project schedule, and project costs, being able to suggest the improvements to all the above
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Provide monthly written reports to project director on project progress
  • Participate in team’s performance reviews
  • Other duties assigned by the Program Director


  • Bachelor of Science degree in STEM or a closely related field
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel. However, skills in Adobe Pro are also desired.
  • Experience in youth outreach (counselor, program assistant, instructor, etc.­), particularly related to the K-16 youth in STEM programs
  • Proficient in using web-conferencing platforms, including, but not limited to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, etc.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate and work within teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Science degree in STEM or a closely related field

Commensurate with education, training, and experience: Contingent upon outside funding

Additional Position Information:

  • This position require weekend and after work hours’ job responsibilities, depending on assignments
  • This position require travel? Yes, out-of-state (conferences, workshops, and training) (for all except the Coordinator and Agent positions add local travel (mainly)
  • This position is funded through restricted outside funding
