Position Description:
Under the general supervision of the Graduate Advising Supervisor, the incumbent serves as the Graduate Student and Admissions Advisor for the Department of Psychology's Ph.D. program. Primary responsibilities will involve coordinating the recruitment and admission process and serving as the primary contact for all prospective graduate students and their admissions related inquiries. Responsible for the articulation of UCLA-wide and degree-specific admissions requirements; coordinating the processing of graduate admissions applications and the application review process; and developing and maintaining the graduate admissions database using database management software; and assisting with recruitment and outreach events. The Advisor will facilitate the transition of entering students into graduate programs; take a lead role in coordinating new graduate student events, including campus-wide and department-specific graduate student orientation programs and workshops. Also responsible for processing first year funding for entering students using funds from multiple sources. The Advisor provides staff support to faculty committees responsible for admissions, recruitment, diversity issues, and fellowship awards. Coordinates the conference travel and recruitment reimbursement process. The Advisor also assists with student services programming and functions, including graduate student workshops; the fellowship awards application process; commencement ceremony; compiling and sending announcements; Summer Sessions administration; and supporting the academic apprentice, reader, and proctor hiring and administration. The Coordinator will supervise a work study student.
