Location
Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary
Mentors, leads and assists with supervision of staff of the University police department as an entry-level member of the leadership staff assigned to a specific operational area of responsibility. In the absence of the assigned supervisor, responsible for supervising enforcement duties involving general and criminal regulations and institutional rules and regulations to provide for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees and property within the areas under the control and authorized jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides oversight for the management of assigned sworn and non-sworn personnel positions
  2. Responsible for supervising enforcement duties involving general and criminal regulations and institutional rules and regulations
  3. Provides for the protection, safety and welfare of students, employees and property within the areas under the control and authorized jurisdiction
  4. First line report for reviews and approvals, in the absence of the Sergeant
  5. Trains and evaluates assigned personnel
  6. Exercises authority positively while maintaining discipline within the department
  7. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act)

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for coordinating and initiating community outreach for KSU Department of Public Safety (DPS)
2. Collaborates with Campus Awareness, Resource and Empowerment (CARE) Center to provide patrol officers with resources for homeless community
3. Supervises staff and students during campus partner organized events
4. Establishes and maintains relationships with community partners by providing resource collections and educational presentations
5. Oversees Law Enforcement Apprenticeship (LEAP) Program and Internship Program
6. Organizes co-curricular activities between student groups and KSU Police Department to foster relationships and learning
7. Coordinates Citizen's Police Academy at Kennesaw State University

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent and at least 21 years of age

Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia driver's license
Must possess and maintain Georgia POST Peace Officer Basic Certification
May be required to obtain and maintain additional certifications as related to assignment

Required Experience
Three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience

ABILITIES
Must be committed to and demonstrate successful engagement of the community oriented policing philosophy Must be able to fulfill all the essential duties of a police officer and to perform the functional role of lower ranks as required May be expected to serve as a Field Training Officer May be reassigned to another operational area or section of equal rank May be required to attend a law enforcement training program at the state, region and/or national level Able to effectively relate to the public and representatives of other law enforcement agencies Able to provide patrol shift coverage or supplemental patrol surge staffing and being dispatched to calls for service Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite) Strong attention to detail and follow up skills Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*:
  • Ability to design and deliver course content to freshman seminar classes on laws and services
  • Ability to design and implement programming to foster positive relationships between Kennesaw State University Community and Kennesaw State University Police Department
  • Ability and knowledge to develop training for explorer post students and train peer advisors
  • Ability and knowledge to develop service-learning courses for participants of the Post, without compromising academic demand.
  • Ability to create the explorer post budget and provide data for future budget needs
  • Ability to provide instruction as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) instructor
  • Ability to apply for outside funding, for departmental needs through grant writing
