Senior Professional Research Assistant

The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a full-time entry level Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA) for a position in clinical research studies. The incumbent will work under the supervision of two Principal Investigators. Although the primary responsibility of this individual will be to assist with two ongoing studies, the incumbent may be asked to assist with multiple studies being conducting by the two Principal Investigators.  This is a full-time, benefited position, with varying/flexible work hours, including some evening and/or weekend shifts. This is an at-will position meaning an employee can be terminated at any time without notice and severance pay may not be provided.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Sr. PRA will manage the day-to-day operations of clinical studies including, but not limited to, the following specific tasks:

    Coordinate and implement human subject recruitmentConduct phone and/or video screeningSchedule research appointments and orientation of volunteers for research studies Conduct or assist with research procedures, including but not limited to measurements of body composition, exercise capacity, and metabolic rateMaximize retention of study participantsProcess human biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine)Assist with wet lab maintenance and compliance, supply ordering and tracking, and other laboratory-related duties as neededAssess, document, and maintain quality control of all study-related data Perform data entry and quality assurance proceduresAttend research meetingsOther duties, as needed, for study completion Represent the University, Department, and Division, internally and externally, in a professional and positive manner
 

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position with varying work hours, including early morning, evening and weekend shifts. The main work site will be the Principle Investigators Lab located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. The incumbent may be required to work or visit other sites/campuses associated with the University of Colorado Denver, as well as other recruitment venues (health fairs, neighborhood gatherings, churches, recreation centers, etc.).

 

KNOWEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The successful applicant should be motivated and able to work independently in an organized and efficient manner to manage clinical studies. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, a proactive learner and able to collaborate with a variety of investigators and individuals on our research teams. In addition, this Sr. PRA should:

    Previous experience in performing metabolic measurements using indirect calorimetry, body composition, and exercise testing in patients with movement disorders or neurological conditions (e.g, Parkinson’s, M.S.)  is preferredHave excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop a cooperative rapport with othersHave excellent oral and written skillsHave excellent organizational skills and attention to detailHave basic knowledge of data management, collection, quality control and analysis methodsBe proficient with computer software including Microsoft word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with REDCap, OnCore, and EPIC is preferred but not requiredPass required research compliance courses (CITI, HIPAA, etc.)Possess (or obtain) basic life support (BLS) certification and maintain certification throughout employmentBe flexible in daily work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekendsHave strong critical thinking and problem solving skillsHave basic bench laboratory skills (pipetting, aliquoting, etc.)
Prior experience as a Professional Research Assistant and specific experience with human subject research and regulations highly preferred but not required

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $49,000 to $55,000

 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology. 

 

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in the research field and previous lab bench work experience is preferred. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications is highly desirable.

Proficient in various exercise testing modalities such as: treadmill and cycle VO2 maximum and submaximal tests, energy expenditure using metabolic gas analysis, body composition (skinfolds, body mass index measurements), and accelerometry.
