Department Summary:

The Student Financial Aid & Scholarships (SFAS) department is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing financial guidance and assistance within the guidelines of regulatory requirements. Through educational endeavors and student outreach, SFAS remains a vital contribution to UNT’s enrollment success.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the coordination and day to day operations of multiple financial aid and scholarship processes within a team and provides expertise within these areas of specialization. Serves as a primary contact for others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for the office to access the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) to verify such standing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• In depth knowledge of financial aid processes, policies and procedures or ability to quickly assimilate.
• Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and organize in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

Educates on and determines eligibility for and awarding all aspects of federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship. Analyzes and processes financial aid and/or scholarship applications and determines eligibility for all aid programs according to federal, state and institutional regulations, policies and procedures. Assists with implementing and coordinating methods of work activity to assure compliance.

o:

Serves as a leader and contact for specific team within Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (SFAS). Assists in the supervision of team members in the absence of the Assistant Director.

o:

Maintains and applies knowledge of SFAS Policy Manual and procedures and keeps abreast of information that impacts the functioning of the SFAS department through the reading of related literature and by attending and participating in meetings. Proposes changes to policy, when needed, based on changes to regulations and programs.

o:

Responsible for communication with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders in the resolutions of complex issues, liaising between parties, educating on relevant policies and regulations, and following up as appropriate.

o:

Develops training materials and provides training related to financial aid and scholarship processes within areas of specialization.

o:

Participates in outreach initiatives that promote awareness of financial assistance. Prepares and conducts presentations.
