Department Summary:

The mission of the Division of Student & Academic Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 12 functional units within the Division of Student & Academic Affairs: Office of Student Development, Career Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Admissions & Recruitment, Office of University Assessment & Accreditation, Office of Disability Access and Title IX.

Position Overview:

The Student Affairs Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Student Services Specialist to join our team. The Specialist will rrovide administrative and operational support to faculty, staff, and students on issues regarding admission, financial aid, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling and academic services. Additionally, they will resolve routine issues of limited scope within own work area using general guidelines and standards or precedents as reference.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an unders tanding of organizational policies and activities
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines in a high paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Communicate effectively through all modalities and professionally represent the department and UNTHSC

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
-Master’s degree in Higher Education with training on student affairs related theory and
practice or other related masters level training.
-Three years’ experience in related field
-Experience working with registered student organizations and/or student governments

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends required for divisional events

Physical Requirements:

o:

Manage financial accounts for classes, governments and organizations including procurement card, reconciliations, purchasing requests, travel and reimbursements.

o:

Develop, implement, and assess programs through multiple delivery methods to support the developmental needs of student leaders.

o:

Advise and train Registered Student Organizations, Governments, and Advisors to ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures and regulatory compliance such as Campus Free Speech and Hazing education.

o:

Plan, coordinate logistics, and evaluate programs that meet the developmental needs of the students in all academic disciplines including but not limited to Event Consultations and Collaboration Fair.

o:

Review, update and disseminate the annual Student Organization Handbook as part of the Organization Renewal process.

o:

Meet with students, faculty, staff, families and others as a subject matter resource.

o:

Other duties as assigned.
