As an Extension Agent, you will work jointly for UF/IFAS Extension and Flagler County. We are looking for an individual who is self-starting, energetic, and team-oriented. Your educational responsibilities will include volunteer management and training with an emphasis on positive youth development of young people ages 5-18 through 4-H projects like food systems, outdoor education, shooting sports, animal science, and leadership. You must be able to work as part of an overall extension team including a 4-H program assistant to oversee delivery of 4-H educational programs. You will demonstrate excellent external and internal customer service, responding to client needs in a timely and professional manner. Your office will be located at the Flagler County Extension Office in Bunnell.

What you will do:

  • Recruit, screen, train, evaluate, recognize, and oversee 4-H volunteers according to state protocol.
  • Oversee the work of adult volunteers leading 4-H clubs, camps, and workshops that promote life skill development in youth.
  • Foster an inclusive environment and build effective relationships with stakeholders, county government, community leaders, private sector clientele, media, government agencies, county residents, and UF/IFAS faculty, staff, and Extension administration.
  • Organize a variety of educational events within the county while helping conduct district and state events.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate extension programs with respect to life skill development and volunteer management.
  • Ensure office procedures related to handling of financial records within the 4-H office and reporting procedures are conducted according to state 4-H protocol.
  • Seek local community support for your 4-H program, including establishment of a local advisory committee.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Complete an annual plan of work and report of accomplishment (including extension program planning, implementation, and evaluation details) based on the input of your advisory committee and other stakeholders. Additional faculty reports will be required.
  • Cultivate relationships with businesses and community partners who have an interest in youth development.
  • Provide leadership for 4-H youth councils.
  • Actively participate in the Flagler County 4-H Association.
  • Work collaboratively to develop partnerships with agencies and organizations for interdisciplinary projects.
  • Develop creative works and write client and public-friendly publications and other educational materials.
  • Seek extramural funding and participate in professional associations.
  • Follow all county, UF, and IFAS Extension policies regarding Affirmative Action, program development, and parity.
  • Occasionally assume other responsibilities that benefit the total county extension program as assigned by the County Extension Director and/or the District Extension Director.

Qualifications:

What you will bring (required):

  • A bachelor’s degree in from an accredited college or university in youth development, education, community development/sociology, non-profit leadership, agriculture, or a related field. We will accept applicants without a bachelor’s degree if the degree will be earned by August 2021. If hired solely with a bachelor’s degree, we want you to continue to grow in your career. As such, we expect you to make at least 50% progress towards obtaining your master’s degree within the first 6 years of employment.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer technology.
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, enthusiasm, and innovativeness.
  • Good organizational development and management skills.
  • Ability to establish solid partnerships and to find innovative ways to attract new audiences and volunteers.
  • A commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to possess (or be able to obtain) a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Flexibility with working hours; willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.

What you will bring (preferred):

  • A master’s degree.
  • Experience creating a variety of educational curricula, developing instructional materials, and applying teaching methods appropriate for the audience, including technology-enhanced and technology-based instruction to reach diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in getting groups to work together for a higher goal, managing competing priorities, and adaptability to handle unexpected situations
  • Experience working in multi-cultural settings.
  • Experience marketing, teaching, and evaluating programs.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers.
  • Experience obtaining extramural funding.
  • Excellent organizational skills and good record-keeping techniques.
  • A strong commitment to customer service.
