Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor, Sociology and Criminology
The Department of Sociology and Criminology invites applications for a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor, non-tenure track, for a one year-appointment, beginning Fall 2021. The position may be extended beyond 2021-2022 contingent on need, funding, and performance. Applications are sought from candidates with a strong record of teaching in sociology or criminology. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to the university's common curriculum, as well as electives for Sociology and Criminology majors. - Ability to teach eight classes over three quarters over the academic year, including core departmental courses and department electives in the candidates specialty area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in Sociology or Criminology.
- Excellent communication skills for classroom teaching and student mentoring.
- Strong people skills, along with the ability to work effectively with all types of people.
- Basic word processing and computer-related skills.
- Ability to listen and effectively communicate verbally with students and faculty.
- ABD in sociology, criminology or related field with expectation that degree will be complete by start of appointment.
- Prior experience as the instructor on record in no fewer than two higher education courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to or experience working with diverse populations.
- PhD in sociology, criminology or related field at time of application.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.
The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $50,000.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
