Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education, the Subject Matter Expert (SME) will support coordination for implementing the Bilingual Authorization Program: Spanish and Mandarin for the School of Education. The SME will develop course(s) in Canvas for the Bilingual Authorization (BILA), review and update fieldwork documents and the BILA Program Handbook, and support recruiting events for the new programs. The SME will fulfill deadlines and requirements set by the Dean, Program Director, Library staff, and Instructional Designer(s). The SME will adhere to departmental deadlines and policies in developing course(s) and program guidelines.
This position can be local or remote, and reports directly to the Dean of the School of Education.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Cite all published materials including free courseware to avoid plagiarism
- Review course readings, syllabi, and assignments to ensure 10-12 students’ hours of work each week (hours include reading, written assignments, and discussion posts)
- Maintain an “applied” tone to the course so that students’ learning objectives illustrate what they will “do,” and readings and exercises support the objectives
- Meet all development milestones or renegotiate with the Dean or Instructional Designer
- Following first time roll-out, with Instructional Designer in course re-design to ensure continuous improvement
- Review and update fieldwork documents, handbooks, and other Bilingual Authorization program materials to ensure alignment with standards and other program documents
- Coordinate recruiting events for the new programs and assist in developing resources and presentations
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

- Ability to convey complex topics in one’s subject-matter to others
- Develop coursework to promote in-depth engagement in course topics
- Possess knowledge of pedagogy, research, and practice in bilingual education
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in TK-12 schools and bilingual education
- Passionate about higher education and dedicated to student success

- Master’s degree required

- Strong computer skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.
- Experience with Canvas and instructional design
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to work both independently and on a team
