Description:

TAMU-CC seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to head the university's inclusive excellence efforts. The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) will report to the President and Provost, and work with Vice Presidents, AVPs, academic deans, and other campus leadership to facilitate an integrated vision and shared responsibility for advancing institutional goals while fostering and affirming a campus culture of inclusion and belonging. The CDO will oversee and establish strategic initiatives to establish inclusive excellence as a core value throughout all aspects of the University community, promote belonging and inclusivity, and advance cultural awareness in both education and practice for all students, faculty, and staff. The CDO will also oversee faculty recruitment, credentialing, and retention.

Responsibilities:

Operations: 40%
  • Lead the successful creation and implementation of a diversity and inclusion plan by collaborating across University schools and divisions and with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of key diversity training programs and opportunities and provide training and development to educate faculty, staff, and students on how to recognize, support, and appreciate individual differences.
  • Manage and coordinate the institutional process for conducting faculty searches and approving appointments.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, administrators, staff, and students, ensuring that recruitment procedures reduce implicit bias and barriers to the hiring of diverse candidates.
  • Partner with faculty to enhance curricular and co-curricular content and pedagogy for diversity and inclusion.
  • Work with the Office of Employee Development & Compliance and the Office of Human Resources.


Strategic: 20%
  • Provide vision and leadership of campus wide diversity initiatives: strategic planning; training, education and research; community relations; policy development; campus climate issues; and related communications.
  • Advise the President, Provost, and senior University administrative officers on issues relating to the University diversity and inclusion strategy and develop and present an array of innovative ideas and program concepts for consideration, selection, and implementation.
  • Foster new partnerships of strategic importance on campus and in the community.


Assessment: 25%
  • Work with the Office of Planning and Institutional Research and the Office of Employee Development & Compliance to compile and analyze metrics to evaluate TAMU-CC's effectiveness in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and provide regular reports to the President and Provost.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for institutional educational and assessment initiatives including inclusive excellence and campus climate studies and evaluates diversity goals by developing metrics/scorecards and tracking progress.
  • Monitor and track national trends including climate studies, demographic data, and policy analyses, and seek benchmarks for success to support and assess diversity and inclusion efforts at TAMU-CC.
  • Promote the evaluation and continuous improvement of institutional and unit level diversity and inclusion goals using data-informed metrics to measure success and disseminate information.


Management: 15%
  • Oversee the Faculty Affairs unit.
  • Supervise faculty recruitment and credentialing personnel.
  • Conduct trainings with academic search committees.
  • Manage budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and seven (7) years experience. Additional education may be used to substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience within a higher education setting with demonstrated success promoting collaboration, creativity and engagement among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Skills in facilitating inclusive dialogues that enable positive growth, the capacity to translate strategic goals into actionable implementation plans, and experience in institutional change management.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs for inclusive excellence.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong presentation skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to being highly visible on campus, coupled with strong interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • An earned master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
