Sr Academic Advisor - Klein
Reporting to the Klein College of Media and Communication Assistant Director of Advising Operations, the Senior Academic Advisor is responsible for providing leadership to various advising staff functions, including advisor training and development, assisting in program evaluation, and serving as a mentor to advisors and other academic support positions to help ensure students receive effective advising services. Supports the initiation, implementation, and management of cross-functional student service initiatives.
The Senior Academic Advisor assesses the efficacy of online and in-person initiatives and is responsible for tracking data related to advising services and student success. The Senior Advisor assists with coordinating the Fly-In-Four program and university-wide retention and at-risk student initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.This position represents Klein College at various related internal and external meetings and events and helps to position Temple and academic advising as highly respected and proactive. The Senior Academic Advisor promotes the vision, mission, policies and procedures, and academic goals of Academic Advising, the Klein College of Media and Communication, and Temple University.Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree and at least three (3) years of relevant experience. At least one and a half years (1.5) advising experience in a higher education academic setting. Demonstrated leadership/project management experience and training design and/or delivery exposure. Demonstrated experience with retention programming and services.Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to advise, assess and evaluate curricular needs for students to ensure correct development towards graduation standards.
*Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
*Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
*Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to lead team projects.
*Demonstrated ability to manage administrative time effectively while balancing multiple tasks and maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
*Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
*Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
*Ability to develop alternative solutions and use reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
*Demonstrated creative thinking skills.
*Ability to maintain a positive attitude when interacting with students, faculty and staff.
*Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully to ensure continuous quality improvement.
*Demonstrated ability to implement changes to processes that increase efficiency.
*Ability to work with student information systems (e.g., Banner).
*Ability to learn easily and disseminate detailed information.
*Ability to maintain a positive attitude while interacting with students, faculty and staff.
*Ability to demonstrate professionalism and flexibility in times of transition.
*Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as necessary.
