The FOIA specialist will assist the FOIA officer to receive, review, and analyze new FOIA requests and determine if they are sufficient to process; conduct record searches and apply lawful exemptions and redactions; release responsive records to requesters within prescribed timeframes; provide information on FOIA, and procedures and processes to employees and FOIA requesters; assist FOIA officer in implementing privacy policies and procedures; receive new FOIA requests and triage them (reviewing and assigning) to ensure they are sufficient.Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.KSA's/Required Qualifications:
•Knowledge of and experience with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
•Knowledge of and experience with computers and various software tools.
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions while remaining organized and accurate.
•Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and evidence.
•Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge, skills, or experience in a related field
•Experience processing FOIA requests
•Knowledge of and experience with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
