Organizational Unit Overview:

To oversee the health and safety practice and compliance of other units at East Carolina University in the areas of Radiation Safety, Biological Safety, Infection Control and provide Employee Health and Biomedical Waste Services.

Job Duties :

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Develop new ECU Infection Control policies as new issues or events require. Review existing ECU Infection Control Policies every 3 years or as needed. Ensure that each ECU Clinical Department develops a Departmental Infection Control policy which is reviewed by the Infection Control Committee.

Organize and set agenda for quarterly ECU Infection Control Committee meetings. Assists chairman of ICC in the follow-up of issues discussed. Presents summary data derived from Infection Control activities.

Serves as resource and liaison to ECU clinics. Advise clinic leadership on sanitation, sterilization, and disinfection procedures. Advise clinics on isolation precautions for various clinical settings. Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance. Review plans for new construction or renovation projects with clinical Infection Control issues.

Provides assistance to Employee Health Nurse as needed.

Ensure that reportable infections diagnosed at ECU clinical facilities are reported to the Health Department as required by law. Liaison with county health departments or regional health agency personnel as needed. Provides reports to the Department of ECU Physicians as needed.

Provide education on OSHA, TB, and Bloodborne Pathogens to all-new ECU employees with occupational exposures. Provide training/education to staff on other Infection Control issues when needed or requested.

Communicate with ECU faculty, staff, and patients as needed. Represent ECU and Prospective Health in a variety of contacts. Provide authoritative and up-to-date information regarding Infection Control as needed. Interface with Infection Control practitioners at PCMH and with state and local Health Department.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.
