Advertised Job Summary:

The STB Safety and Stockroom Manager is responsible for serving as the Safety Coordinator for the Science and Technology Building which includes managing and maintaining the teaching laboratory Chemical Hygiene plan; ensuring that all labs meet safety requirements including weekly testing of eyewash and showers and the maximum allowable quantities of chemicals and solvents; stocking all labs with safety supplies (gloves, lab coats, safety glasses, paper towels, fire extinguishers); coordinating the regular cleaning and sanitizing of the undergraduate lab coats; maintaining chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals in STB; serve as liaison with Environmental Health and Safety concerning any safety issues and serving as the liaison with Facilities concerning any building issues. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing the training of all graduate teaching assistants and the part-time teaching assistants, which includes the safety training, the lab course specific training, and the STB laboratory specific training. Will coordinate with Health and Safety to ensure that instructors, lab coordinators, graduate teaching assistants and part-time teaching assistants have the proper general safety training and document that the safety training was conducted; and communicate with the Lab Coordinators that the proper lab specific and ethics training was conducted and documented. In addition to safety protocols and safety training, the incumbent will be responsible for managing all inventory in the STB stockroom which includes ordering, securing, delivering, and storing of all chemicals for the undergraduate labs. Will process orders from the lab coordinators for chemicals and laboratory supplies for the undergraduate laboratories in STB using Purchasing Cards or Purchase Orders; serve as the point of contact for deliveries to the STB which includes receiving deliveries of chemicals and laboratory supplies, securing and storing deliveries in the STB Stockroom, and delivering them to the appropriate undergraduate lab; maintain a stock of commonly used chemicals, solvents, and laboratory supplies in the STB Stockroom; and receive and coordinate the retrieval of packages for STB that have been delivered to the CAS Stockroom. Will also serve as the back-up purchasing agent for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry research groups.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Master’s degree and 4 years related experience in business, public administration or administrative services, or bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience; or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer someone with experience managing inventory for a science stockroom.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of University policies and procedures, stockroom safety protocols, and inventory management.
