The mission of Stanford Financial Management Services (FMS) is "to work together to make administration seamless and efficient to enable and support teaching, learning and research." In support of this mission, FMS provides a wide array of services to support and enable effective financial management activities performed by university clients and business partners, including campus departments and central business units. The Business Relationship and Client Advisory team is a key part of a larger Business Strategy and Relationship team within Financial Management Services (FMS).

What you’ll do:

Relationship Managers establish and nurture productive working relationships at all levels with Stanford’s schools and departments to understand their academic and administrative business strategies, and to help shape and support their current and future use of financial systems and solutions. Relationship Managers strive to accelerate campus partners’ longer-term objectives by seeking opportunities to leverage existing FMS services and working with them to understand how we can collaborate with them on business solutions to support their goals.

In this rewarding position, you will build and grow strategic relationships across campus partners to help support the overall goals, services, and initiatives for Financial Management Services (FMS). Serving as trusted advisors within Stanford’s schools and departments, the Relationship Manager presents value in the application of financial resources and services to promote Stanford’s mission.

Each day brings a new set of priorities as you:

  • Build and maintain long-term strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including academic and financial leaders to promote and facilitate productive collaboration opportunities.
  • Focus on providing outreach services to understand financial needs, provide business process analysis, share best practices and recommend business solutions.
  • Gain a deep understanding of our campus partners’ business needs and share perspectives on their goals and business drivers to aid FMS’s effectiveness in providing financial services and solutions.
  • Participate in promoting high campus partner satisfaction levels; review client satisfaction survey results and present recommendations for corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Drive strategic alignment between client and FMS systems/services roadmaps
  • Serve as the primary (not exclusive) point of contact and coordination in building long-term relationships with customers
  • Drive true business partnership in the stewardship of university resources
  • Liaise between the client and internal FMS teams
  • Ensure the proper scoping and successful delivery of FMS solutions according to client needs, objectives and operational capabilities
  • Develop and manage client health dashboards (including SLAs, and other shared success metrics)
  • Coordinate delivery of exceptional client service in every client engagement
  • Monitor and clearly communicate the progress of monthly/quarterly initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal FMS teams to resolve work prioritization or resourcing conflicts as they arise
  • Effectively collaborate with other FMS colleagues in order to determine appropriate solutions and services, training and support change for the client, but also to enable alignment from within FMS.
  • Participate in existing and evolving Business Relationship Management projects and programs such as Stanford Travel, Cardinal Print and CardinalTemps.

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 -10 years of relevant experience in finance/administration and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience. Higher Education and Business Relationship Management (BRM) Institute certification a plus.

  • Demonstrated financial management knowledge.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work in a decentralized environment to effectively manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Willingness to explore creative and innovative technologies and solutions
  • Proficiency in use of collaboration tools including Jabber, Zoom, G-Suite, SLACK and Smartsheet
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and the flexibility to deliver presentations to influence different audiences.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong expertise in business/finance and/or financial systems/applications and databases.
  • Business Relationship Management (BRM) Institute certification a plus
