Temporary Lecturer provides a quality learning experience for students. Performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The relationship of the Lecturer faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning. Teaching and departmental responsibilities expected.
The College of Liberal Arts currently has 113 full-time and 152 part-time faculty in 8 academic departments. The College serves the University's Core Curriculum programs and enrolls more than 2,850 undergraduate students and more than 300 graduate students in 34 undergraduate and 17 graduate majors. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Lecturers are expected to be dedicated to excellent undergraduate teaching. Each lecturer teaches five courses per semester of General Humanities: Ancient through Medieval and/or General Humanities: Renaissance through Modern. May be asked to teach in a variety of delivery formats (online, hybrid, face-to-face). Lecturers participate in regular committee work at chair's discretion.Qualifications
An earned degree Master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Experience in teaching college-level humanities disciplines preferred. MA in a humanities-related field required, with Ph.D. preferred. Humanities fields include art history, music, literature, history, philosophy, classics, anthropology, theater, film studies, religious studies and related disciplines. An interdisciplinary humanities background is strongly preferred.
The minimum degree required is an M.A. Previous teaching experience required, preferably a survey in the humanities. The successful applicant will have a broad background that includes at least two of the following areas: art, music, literature, history, philosophy, religious studies, and architecture. Preference for college teaching experience.
