Applications are currently being solicited for a grants writer to work with researchers affiliated with the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. We are a community of researchers focused on all aspects of quantitative modeling in the life sciences.

The work will focus on supporting researchers in the preparation of all aspects of proposals for external funding, ranging from small, single PI proposals to large, multi-PI, multi-institutional efforts. This role is expected to draft, edit, and format proposals in response to solicitations from a diversity of agencies and institutions. Lastly, the person in this role will help with the identification of new funding opportunities and potential collaborators within the NIMBioS community and field incoming requests to find partners for potential new collaborations on applications/proposals/projects.

A candidate should have some relevant subject matter expertise in mathematical modeling sufficient to understand the nature of research, education, and outreach efforts being proposed to funders, and should be able to draft management plans and reasonable timelines for workflow and deliverables. Lastly, the person will be expected to help shepherd the paperwork involved with proposals through various stages of approvals.

A candidate should have excellent organizational and communication skills and experience working with researchers in a STEM field.



Qualifications
Requirements:

  • MA/MS in a field related to mathematical modeling, or MA/MS in a field not related to mathematical modeling plus two years of experience working in a research lab in a STEM field involving mathematical modeling
  • 4+ years’ experience in a role involving the preparation of grant proposals to external funding sources
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work/communicate with/manage a diverse and multidisciplinary team
Preferred qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in a field related to mathematical modeling
  • A track record of successful funding on diverse research projects involving mathematical modeling in the life sciences.
  • A track record of successful team management/leadership for a team of interdisciplinary academic participants.
