Summary of Duties:

General teaching duties include: instructing students; preparing course materials; interacting with students; developing and conducting tests; evaluating students including grading; establishing and keeping regular office hours; and assisting students with questions and academic development.

50% Teaching

Specific to this position, the Teaching Assistant Professor will be responsible for both traditional didactic (i.e., classroom based) and experiential instruction within the Bachelor of Science, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (BS NEP) program, and Master of Science, Coordinated Program in Dietetics, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (MS CPD), the former to include at minimum NEP 450 (Management & Facilities) and the later for dietetic students in the food service management area (NEP 551, Management Practices in Food Service), to meet the Accreditation Counsel in Education for Dietetics and Nutrition (ACEND) requirements to test for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential. The faculty member will also be expected to offer trainings to preceptors, as needed, regarding program needs and expectations for student experiential activities.

40% Administration

Specific to administration responsibilities, this role will coordinate and manage placements at experiential learning sites for MS CPD students and advise current students on information about and recommendations for experiential site placements, as needed and in conjunction with the MS CPD Program Director. Recruit and develop new experiential sites that meet the requirements and expectations of the MS CPD and accrediting organization. Develop and maintain supervised practice site relationships and create prospective site resources that can be used to develop new relationships and placement opportunities for students.

In conjunction with the MS CPD Program Director, design evaluations of the experiential learning sites and conduct visits to the program’s experiential sites on a regular, consistent, and systematic basis to ensure the learning environments meet or exceed quality standards.

Participate in department, college, and/or university committees; service to the profession (e.g., ACEND).

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in nutrition or closely related area.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) (by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR))
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience in food service management and/or supervisory-related job duties in dietetics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned terminal degree (PhD) in human nutrition, nutritional sciences, or related field, and experience relevant to the position. Candidates in ABD status are eligible to apply, but the terminal degree must be earned prior to the negotiated start date.
