The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics seeks a Laboratory and Research Technician 1 to work in Dr. Sheynkman’s Laboratory. The goal of the Sheynkman Lab is to understand the biological significance of proteomic variation through development of integrative proteogenomic and functional proteomics approaches. The qualified candidate will, at the direction of Dr. Sheynkman or senior staff, assist in the development of computational pipelines to detect protein isoforms by closely integrating methodologies from long-read RNA sequencing and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. They will be responsible for basic exploratory data analysis and visualization, assisted coding of novel algorithms and pipelines described in literature, and presenting results to group members. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree. in computer science, physical sciences, or biological sciences with coursework in bioinformatics, data analysis, and visualization (R and/or Python). Though all backgrounds will be considered, applicants from other fields but with a strong interest in the scientific topic matter are welcome.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
