Job description

Job location: Charlottesville, VA

Employment Type: Full-time

Req: R0023690

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks a motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Irina Bochkis. The Bochkis lab is utilizing experimental and computational methods to understand genetics and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate metabolism. We utilize functional genomics, chromatin biology, physiology, and transcriptional regulation in a comprehensive approach to decipher molecular mechanisms in mammalian models of human metabolic disease. Our recent R01 application has been funded by NIDDK and we are hiring!

We are looking for a postdoctoral Research Associate interested in epigenetic & transcriptional regulation and/or metabolism with experience in genomics and next-generation sequencing. Individuals with experimental background and/or computational background are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will work in a joint experimental and computational environment with excellent resources for experimental validation of hypotheses generated by genomic analysis. UVA offers a rich collaborative environment for postdoctoral associates.

Interested candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in genetics, molecular biology, genomics, computational biology, or related field. Experience with working with mammalian tissue and next-generation sequencing of mammalian genomes (library preparation and sequence analysis) is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position will remain open until filled. This position is renewed on a yearly basis and is contingent upon available funding.
