Office of Veteran & Military Student Services has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Veterans and Military Business Services Coordinator position.

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families.  Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Professionals at the entry level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. 

At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and development capacity.

Position Emphasis:
The position will primarily serve as a Department of Veteran Affairs School Certifying Official (SCO) for the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz in collaboration with the Office of Veteran & Military Student Service’s education benefit team. This position will review claims and submit certifications/verifications through the VA-ONCE portal regularly, as well as both pre- and post-registration. This role will track the initial and ongoing certification of military-connected students seeking tuition and expense benefits, while monitoring satisfactory course completion, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA), the Department of Defense (DOD) and the State Approving Agency (SAA). 

The Veterans and Military Business Services Coordinator will assist in analyzing, creating and modifying processes in correlation with changing programs, laws and regulations. This role will be expected to use professional judgment to interpret federal and state laws and regulations and justify/explain them to administrators, staff, and students. This position will assist in course catalog/program approvals and in developing and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of veteran and military education benefits, while ensuring the University complies with the laws and regulations of the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the Department of Defense and the State Approving Agency. This role will assist in responding to and resolving inquiries regarding VA and DOD education benefits via telephone, email, and in-person to ensure timely and high-quality customer services, as well as making referrals to other support services. This role will oversee and monitor the unit’s VA Work-Study program and submit all appropriate applications, contracts, and approvals while providing student employee supervision. The position will support the administrative, procurement functions for the unit, including processing personnel (HCM) transactions, assisting with professional and student staff scheduling, purchasing, and procurement needs and other administrative duties for the office. Additional responsibilities include assisting in researching, developing and scheduling all military-connected student activities/events for the office, overseeing the website content and social media functions, and providing support with special projects as assigned. 

80% School Certifying Official duties 
20% Administrative, procurement, purchasing, planning support

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring rate for this position has been established at $40,916.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, liberal arts, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a university or college veteran / military student support office.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working with and advising diverse students in a higher education setting.  
  • Professional finance or HR experience which may include: budget management; gathering and analyzing data for reporting purposes; and/or providing HR and payroll support services.
  • Experience arranging and planning special events.
