Student Life and Campus Community – Student Affairs has an opening for a full time University Staff (unclassified) Coordinator of Student Organizations position.

Jobs in this career family support students' emotional and physical well-being and intellectual, cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instruction program or traditional academic unit.  Functions include student counseling, career guidance, residence life, multicultural affairs, support of student activities and organizations, recreation services and intramural athletics administration. 

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. 

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis: 
The Student Life and Campus Community office provides leadership, support and oversight of: Student Organizations, The Sentry Newspaper, Sorority & Fraternity Life, Leadership Programs, the Student Government Association and Community Engagement. The Coordinator also plays an active role on the Student Life & Campus Community team. This includes supporting large-scale collaborative initiatives, working with and supporting peer events, participating in departmental planning, staff training and development, budgeting, and assessment efforts. This position interacts directly with students, faculty, associate deans, directors and staff within the university and externally with community partners, employers, alumni and other professionals.
  
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Organizations in Student Life and Campus Community, the Coordinator of Student Organizations is a vital team member that will develop and provide leadership for a comprehensive student organization program. The student organizations program will encourage student learning, enhance the overall university experience, result in community building, creation of a sense of belongingness at CU Denver and will prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities. The student organizations program at CU Denver assists students in recruiting members, leadership development, programming and event planning, risk management and the creation of school spirit and community impact.  

Examples of Work Performed:

Student Organization Program Support and Administration – 50%

  • Support the Student Organizations program, 130+ groups, within a variety of categories such as social, academic, cultural, honorary, arts, social justice and faith-based. 
  • Support the planning and execution of Student Organization Recruitment Fairs, tabling events and first-year and transfer student involvement recruitment efforts.
  • Provide workshops, or meet individually, to assist students in successfully creating and launching new student organizations. 
  • Provide individual leadership coaching to enhance student organization officer’s roles within their group or team.
  • Encourage students to participate in civic and community engagement (volunteer) efforts.
  • Support students learning in the area of intercultural competence and cultural humility.
  • Create, present and assess engaging training (on-line and in person) using a variety of implementation strategies (retreats, workshops, 1/1 coaching) to address starting, maintaining and enhancing the effectiveness of a student organization. Topics may include membership recruitment, officer development, event planning, finance and funding policies/resources, and transitioning your group at the end of the year.  Use learning outcomes based and assessment oriented practices within training design.
  • Provide advising to chapter presidents on risk management, event planning, group dynamics and management of their organization, etc.  Additionally assist student organizations with problem solving and connect groups to campus and community resources as needed.
  • Support student leader’s knowledge in the areas of fund-raising, club purchases, and various university policies related to student travel. Work collaboratively with the Student Life Procurement Coordinator and, as needed, with the student organization treasurers.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Student organizations, fulfill a role with university policies:
    • Support the success of student organizations through the enforcement and development of Student Life & Campus Community Student Organization policies and guidelines, including registration, constitutions and by-laws, and disciplinary procedures.
    • Support, implement or enforce various CU Denver and University of Colorado system policies that affect the work of student organizations and provide information for the annual Clery Report.
    • Support processes related to student organization accountability within the Student Code of Conduct. 
  • Support the Sorority and Fraternity Life program as directed by the Assistant Director for Student Organizations.  Tasks may include supporting organization recruitment, marketing, student leader and new member orientation and training, leadership development / coaching, accountability, record keeping for the Annual Certification Program (ACP), assessment and event management. 
  • Coordinate the Student Organization PERKS Program, the incentive program designed to increase student organization engagement in campus life.  Monitor group progress through record keeping and communication efforts. Recognized groups accomplishments.
  • Assist with the management of the CU Denver student engagement platform (i.e., MyLynx). Train student leaders on the use of the MyLynx and serve as an administrator within the system processing student forms, events, experiences and skills.  Market MyLynx to students, faculty and staff. 
  • Contribute to and support the student organizations marketing plan including use of social media, video, print, etc.  Oversee and manage the departmental Instagram account and serve as an administrator of various Facebook pages.
  • Develop relationships with, and support, campus partners invested in and impacted by the work of student organizations. 
Supervision and Advising– 30%:

  • Hire, train and supervise the “Student Involvement Ambassador” team.  The SIAs support all departmental events and administrative tasks related to the student organizations program and Student Life & Campus  Communities programmatic functions.
  • Train SIAs on event planning, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, civic and community engagement, peer listening skills, campus resources, SLCC programs, and various software platforms (i.e.: MyLynx, Canva, Menti, Zoom, Jackbox.TV, Icebreaker.video, etc.) 
  • Lead staff meetings and direct work assignments, event planning, first 6-week’s Meet Up Groups, etc.  
  • Meet individually with staff members at least twice a month to discuss task progress and provide leadership / personal development support.
  • Design and implement an evaluation process to enhance career readiness.
  • Plan and implement an SIA selection process including marketing the position, interviewing new and returning candidates, and selecting staff members to best serve Student Life & Campus Community and the wider campus.  
  • Advise committees or student groups as assigned.
Leadership Development – 10%:

  • Support the leadership development of CU Denver students and identified student leaders through presenting LEAD workshops and/or teaching the LEAP Program (a co-curricular course on the Social Change Model of Leadership) as assigned.
  • Coordinate the annual campus-wide Milo Student Leadership Awards program (April).  
  • Work with the Financial Aid & Scholarship office to market the Student Leader Scholarship of the Year, and coordinate fund-raising for the scholarship. 
  • Plan and execute annual event with support of the Student Life & Campus Community team:
    • Chair the planning committee. 
    • Work collaboratively with campus partners to recruit for and select award winners.
  • Coordinate the student leader graduation cord program including record keeping and distribution to graduating seniors. 
Administration – 10%:

  • Participate in the on-going development, administration and assessment of the Student Experience Curriculum.
  • Maintain student leader records so that Student Life & Campus Community can build an alumni database for future fundraising efforts.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of Student Life & Campus Community needs via email, phone, and in-person communication.
  • Coordinate departmental and campus events as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental and campus committees as assigned.

This is an essential services position.  The incumbent is required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shifts during emergency campus closures.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring rate for this position has been established at $45,000.   

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social science, women and gender studies, psychology, business, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, liberal arts, human services, student affairs , or a directly related field from an accredited institution Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience working in an institution of higher education in student activities, campus life or related area.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regularly assigned shifts during emergency campus closures.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education, Counseling or a related field and experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of graduate level or professional experience working with student clubs and organizations.
  • Experience working with sorority and/or fraternity organizations
  • Experience in campus programming.
  • Experience in teaching college students about ethics and risk management.
  • Experience with training student leaders, writing / delivering / assessing leadership curriculum.
  • Experience working with college students and volunteers.
  • Event planning experience.
