Instructor/Lecturer in Latina/o Studies

The Department Latina/Latino Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure track Instructors/Lecturers for the 2021-22 academic year. Courses to be taught include Intro to Latina/Latino Studies, Latina/o Migration, Latina/o Popular Culture, and Latina/os on the Bronze Screen. The essential duties of the positions include providing classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the University; informing students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the courses; preparing a course syllabus for each course and distributing it early in each term; maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; providing assistance to students in a timely manner; maintaining accurate scholastic records of students; and submitting required reports on student progress according to published deadlines. Teaching is expected to be in person.

Qualifications: Candidates are required to hold a Master's degree (Ph. D or other terminal degree preferred) and have experience teaching U.S. Latina/o studies courses at the college level. Candidates with a Master's degree will be appointed at the rank of instructor. Candidates with a Ph.D. will be appointed at the rank of lecturer.

Salary and Appointment Information: The appointments will be full-time (100%), nine-month non-tenure track positions for Aug. 16, 2021–May 15, 2022. A one-time renewal of the positions is possible and contingent on availability of funding, sufficient enrollments, and strong performance reviews. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
