Duke Regional Hospital, a community hospital affiliated with Duke University Health System, has an excellent opportunity for a licensed Physician Assistant with strong clinical skills in the Department of Surgery at Duke Regional Hospital. This innovative position provides perioperative care to various surgical service patients including vascular, bariatric, acute care, and trauma surgery on an as needed basis (PRN). As a member of a rapidly growing Advanced Practice team, this position provides clinical care to patients through various venues, including consultations, pre- and post-op care, follow-up, and patient education.
Obtains histories for patients which have implications for treatment of the disease process for which the patient is being seen.
Perform a complete and/or problem-based physical exam; orders, performs, evaluates, and interprets, findings and integrates finding to formulate health management plan of surgical patients.
Evaluate and make recommendations for patient/family health management planning with full consideration of patient safety needs in collaboration with supervising physician.
Complete thorough and timely consultations via Emergency department or hospitalized patients.
Work on an academic center team that consists of interns, residents, and various medical professional students.
Maintain appropriate patient medical record documentation in accordance with established standards.
Adhere to medical staff policy and procedure for timely note writing and discharge summary documentation.
Participate in continuing education as required for professional licensure, NC Medical Board and medical staff bylaws.
Prescribe medications within their scope of practice and that of their supervising physician.
Practice in accordance with all state laws and medical staff bylaws.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
