Position Summary:

As a University-operated recharge core, the Proteomics Core Facility offers mass-spectrometry based proteomics services to internal and external collaborators. As a full-service core, we offer sample preparation, mass spectrometry analysis and data analysis. Current instrumentation at the UNC Proteomics Core includes five mass spectrometers: Thermo Exploris 480, Orbitrap Fusion Lumos, QExactive HF, QExactive HF Biopharma and Sciex 5800 MALDI-TOF/TOF. In addition to the mass spectrometers, there are three Thermo Easy nLC 1200s, an Ultimate3000, and a 908 Devices ZipChip capillary electrophoresis device for up-front separation, and an Agilent 1260 Infinity II HPLC for offline peptide fractionation. Several software packages are available: Proteome Discoverer 2.5, Scaffold v4, Byos, Spectronaut Biognosys, MaxQuant, Skyline, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis.

The Research Associate will work with other Proteomics Core members and collaborators to design experiments and manage projects ranging from post-translational site mapping to deep quantitative proteomics. The Research Associate will be responsible for analyzing complex proteomics datasets, writing reports and directly communicating results to collaborators. This will include developing data analysis pipelines (statistical, QC, data visualization) of large datasets, as well as manual data curation. The successful candidate will lead efforts to apply new approaches for proteomics data acquisition and analysis on our high-resolution MS platforms. The successful candidate will oversee data storage and data sharing, and will be involved in multi-omics data integration efforts by facilitating collaborations with other core facilities and research groups on campus.

Educational Requirements:

PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related discipline, with three or more years of hands-on experience in proteomics and mass spectrometry.

Qualifications and Experience:

Three or more years of hands-on experience in proteomics data analysis and mass spectrometry. Additionally, the applicant will have a strong publication record in proteomics or a related field.
The applicant will have hands-on experience with LC-MS instruments such as high-resolution mass spectrometers (Thermo Orbitrap systems), triple quadrupoles, nanoLC systems or other similar instruments. The applicant will have knowledge in sample preparation techniques, as well as extensive experience in data analysis using software such as Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Skyline, Byos. The applicant will have experience with quantitative analyses, including TMT, SILAC and label-free approaches. Preference will be given to candidates with statistical (using R, Python) and bioinformatics expertise. The applicant will have a working knowledge of cell biology and common biochemical techniques. Experience with biotherapeutic characterization and/or targeted quantitation is a plus, but not required.

Equal Opportunity Employer :
