The UNC Neuroscience Center is an inter-departmental research center on the campus of UNC- Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Our mission is to promote various and extensive neuroscience research with a specific emphasis on developmental, cellular, and disease-related processes.

Position Description:

The Business Services Coordinator has several roles within the unit. These include the executive assistant function of managing calendar requests for the director and co-director as well planning and executing two annual research conferences. Duties also include pre and post award management support for 14 faculty members submitting more than 100 proposals per year. This position will serve as a resource to faculty regarding agency guidelines and assist faculty in the pre-award phase, including working with the SOM pre-award service center. This position also works closely with the Center accounting manager to provide post-award account reconciliation for both departmental and sponsor funds. The Center anticipates significant growth over the next 2-3 years due to the onboarding of three faculty and the fulfilling of one vacant faculty position. All recruited researchers are expected to be well funded with robust research programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

This position is one of five full time positions that make up the Center’s administration. As such, it is essential that staff members operate with substantial independence. The candidate for this position must have the ability to manage a variety of tasks while meeting set deadlines. This position regularly interacts with faculty, staff, students and external vendors so the successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with a focus on excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with university systems, especially Connect Carolina and Infoporte are preferred.

Special Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing less than 20 lbs.
