Director of Development Marketing

Job description

Director of Development Marketing
University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: 33460
Salary: Salary commensurate with skills, knowledge and experience.

Position Description:
The Director of Development Marketing will serve as a key member of UCLA Development's Donor Engagement leadership team. This individual will develop and manage a comprehensive marketing and communications program that reflects the department's short- and long-term goals and will oversee a staff of professionals focused on all aspects of marketing, communications and messaging. The Director will develop marketing strategies and lead initiatives to enhance the visibility and build awareness of the importance of philanthropy at UCLA -- its contributing role in the breadth, depth and excellence of UCLA's academic programs and faculty, and how it supports the contributions and achievements of students and faculty at local, national and international levels.

The Director of Development Marketing will manage a wide array of fundraising communications, which will include stewardship reporting, proposal development, websites, digital communications, case statements and other key vehicles that serve UCLA's philanthropic efforts. This individual will provide counsel and advice to UCLA Development's senior leaders on overarching marketing and communications strategies and will work closely with administrative leaders to ensure that UCLA is consistently, accurately, and effectively communicating a culture of philanthropy among diverse constituencies -- donors, alumni, parents, students, community partners, media, the public, and other enterprises. The Director will be a strong campus voice among non-development marketers and communications leaders, advocating for and educating about development and the critical role of philanthropy at UCLA.

This individual will be a creative thinker, an inspiring leader, and a highly collaborative professional who thrives on the challenge of motivating a team and building an innovative, service-oriented marketing and communications program. Skilled at strategically positioning and clearly articulating the mission, aspirations and goals of UCLA Development to all constituencies, especially with respect to the case for philanthropic support, the Director must be a persuasive communicator, savvy media liaison, and committed team player.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Donor Engagement, the Director is expected to work well independently, but also work effectively with Vice Chancellors and Associate/Assistant Vice Chancellors and other senior level administrators to develop strategic opportunities and ensure marketing/communication goals are met. Marketing and fundraising experience, entrepreneurial skills, original thought, strong communications, good judgment, energy and proactive initiative are necessary attributes for the successful achievement of the goals and objectives of this role.
