Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with grounds maintenance. The duties and responsibilities are as follows:

60% Turf Maintenance
15% Litter and Debris Removal
15% Weed Control
10% Tree and Shrub Maintenance

This position is a mandatory position as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions. Special note: this is a generalized representation of positions in this class and is not intended to identify essential functions per ADA. Examples of competencies are typical of the majority of positions, but may not be applicable to all functions.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates:

• Valid NC driver’s license required
• NC Pesticide Applicator’s License or the ability to acquire within six months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-3 years of landscape maintenance experience

Alternate Option:

Essential Tasks:

Position has the ability and knowledge to see to the needs of the living plants. Position uses appropriate methods to accomplish the following tasks: pruning, irrigation, installation, mulching, fertilizing, and removals.

Coordinates quality and direction of work as lead person. Recognizes grounds maintenance needs. Coordinates and schedules grounds maintenance work. Coordinates utility digs and irrigation repairs. Applies/recommends all types of pesticides usages. Coordinates moves and setups for events and activities. Coordinates design, acquisition of material (plants and planting, mulch, seed, fertilizer, etc.).
