General Summary of Position:

This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.

The Director of Residential Education (DRE) is a critical member of the Residence Life Management team, and is responsible for the long range planning and development of a comprehensive Residence Life program which includes: the development and implementation of the Residential Curriculum, crisis management for 5,000 residential students, budget management, a robust Living-Learning Community Program, and the training and development 16+ professional staff, 10+ graduate staff and over 150 paraprofessional staff. The DRE provides strategic planning and oversight in professional development, leadership development, curriculum development, social justice, and academic support. The DRE supervises Associate Directors and support staff focused on Inclusion & Residential Leadership (including RHA & NRHH advising); Academic Partnerships (including Living-Learning Communities); and Staff Selection & Development.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide general leadership, supervision, and direction in all areas of Residential Education including the direct oversight of Residential Curriculum, as well as general supervision for Living-Learning Communities, training, leadership development and staff development and training.
  • Supervise Associate Directors and support staff overseeing Inclusion & Residential Leadership, Academic Partnerships and Staff Selection & Development.
  • Develop and maintain the Residence Life Guidelines and Residence Life policies and procedures including duty protocols, incident report guidelines and the staff manual. The DRE serves as a judicial hearing officer addressing behavior violations in residence and is the main liaison with the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual and long-term budgets for Residence Halls and assist the Associate Dean of Students Affairs in the preparation and oversight of all expenditures from the Residence Life Trust.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with academic schools and colleges, deans, faculty, staff, and university partners.
  • Ensure optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
