We are encouraging applications for a College Prep Lecturer in the department of ODECE/Rural/Pre-Collegiate Development Programs. This is a short-term instructor appointment, which will provide instruction support for college preparatory course. The instructor will be teaching for the Rural Pre-College Outreach Academic Summer Experience which serves youth from Boulder County, Morgan County and the San Luis Valley.

The Rural Department of the Office of Pre-College Outreach and Engagement supports first-generation students from across the state. Our outreach initiatives support students from the front range, western slope, eastern plains, southern Colorado. Through our support we host a variety of programs which provide student participants with the gaining experience with college level courses, preparing for college admissions and financial planning. In addition our programs serve as an introduction to support programs and opportunities in supporting Colorado's youth in reaching their goals for post-secondary enrollment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • As a support instructor for the College Prep course, you will be expected to lead various identity workshops.
  • These workshops will aim to support students' explore and reflect how each personal identity impacts who they are. Additionally these workshops will help students understand how to write about who they are and construct powerful personal narratives that can be used for college admission and scholarship essays.
What You Should Know
  • This position will require the instructor to work collaboratively with program directors to ensure the identity workshops are meeting the goals of the course.
  • The instructor will be working with students from various identity backgrounds and should pay close attention to the needs and sensitivities of each student participant.
  • The summer program will begin Monday, June 14th- July 16th.

  • B.A. from an accredited college/university or a M.A. from an accredited college/university.

  • As an instructor you will need to be able to support the learning of diverse students, while promoting their academic curiosity and paying special attention to cultivating their knowledge base in safe learning environment.
  • Working with our student populations requires the ability to meet students where they are coming from and encourage and support their educational aspirations.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • 3 or more years of working with underrepresented students.
  • Experience in Youth Facilitation.
  • Experience in college readiness coaching.
  • Experience in coaching identity development with underrepresented youth.
