Job Summary: The Assessment Specialist is responsible for data searches, data retrieval, analyses and reporting from campus-wide data depositories to facilitate and support university planning, policy development, and operations.

Additional Department Summary: The University of Alabama is seeking an Assessment Specialist to join the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE). Primary among the skills needed are curiosity about the success of our students, the ability to assess/evaluate student learning/success and the experiences that support learning/success, and the ability to effectively communicate the results of assessment/evaluation. Other valued skills include the ability to:
• design tools for assessment, i.e. surveys,
• develop strategic plans,
• independently manage IE projects,
• develop curriculum, and
• interpret standards and complete institutional and specialized accreditation reports.
This position supports institutional effectiveness, an established campus-wide continuous improvement process that includes assessment of student learning, accreditation, program review, and new program approval.
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate is to work as a member of the OIE team to support continuous improvement processes throughout the institution. The ideal candidate will possess:
• technical/software skills to manage processes, store documents, coordinate projects, collect and analyze data, create and maintain websites, and manage accreditation;
• experience with best practices in assessment of student learning and evaluation of environments that support students, strategic planning, academic program review, institutional and specialized accreditation, and the culture of higher education and organization to include board and state approval processes for academic programs; and
• strong organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
 

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and one (1) year of assessment, evaluation, and/or institutional effectiveness experience, to include some experience in higher education.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a detail-oriented team and faculty/staff from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.
Project, process, and/or document management skills.
 

Preferred Qualifications: IE experience at a large university with undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
Assessment/evaluation experience with both academic and non-instructional units.
Qualitative and quantitative research experience.
Experience with compliance reporting and regional or specialized accrediting agencies.
Experience with higher education curriculum approval processes for state agencies and governing boards.
